Brick Masonry Quantity Calculation | Complete Step-by-Step Example with Cost Estimation

Brick masonry is fundamental to most Indian construction.

Standard Indian Brick Size

Nominal: 230mm × 110mm × 70mm

Actual: 215mm × 102mm × 65mm

Bricks per m³: ~500 bricks

Bricks per m² (230mm wall): ~56-60 bricks

Complete Example: 10m × 8m building, 230mm walls, 3m height

Step 1: Wall Area

Perimeter = 2(10+8) = 36m

Wall area = 36 × 3 = 108 m²

Step 2: Deduct Openings

2 Doors (1×2m) = 4 m²

4 Windows (1×1m) = 4 m²

Net area = 108 – 8 = 100 m²

Step 3: Number of Bricks

100 m² × 56 bricks/m² = 5,600 bricks

Step 4: Add Wastage (8%)

5,600 × 1.08 = 6,048 bricks ≈ 6,050 bricks
